Winners announced for Inner City Entrepreneurship Competition
from WTNH
A big award for local companies today.
Lieutenant Governor Jodi Rell announced the winners of the "2003 Inner City 10 Entrepreneurship Competition."
These winners are recognized as fast growing companies in Connecticut's inner cities. The competition is in it's third year and it's all part of Governor Rowland's plan to promote inner city revitalization through business developments.
The companies that won the awards are from Hartford, East Hartford, Stamford, New Haven and Bridgeport.
These companies will now compete in the national competition.
The Top Ten companies are:
1) Rego Realty Corporation, Hartford
2) GRT Corporation, Stamford
3) Pertel Communication of New England, Inc., Hartford
4) Salamander Designs, Ltd., Hartford
5) Horizon Staffing Services, East Hartford
6) Horizon Services Corporation, East Hartford
7) Kenneth Boroson Architects, New Haven
8) GimaSport, Hartford
9) Q-Tran, Inc., Bridgeport
10) Svigals & Partners, LLP., New Haven

11 Companies In State On Fast-Growth List

Eleven Connecticut companies have been named to the Inner City 100, a national listing of fast-growing companies selected by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City and Inc. magazine.
Six of the firms on the list are in the Hartford area, and one of them - Rego Realty Corp. of Hartford - ranked 10th. Rego develops and manages real estate, employs 35, and has a compound annual growth rate of 107 percent.
Other Connecticut companies and their rankings are: GRT Corp., a Stamford information technology consultant, 19; Pertel Communications of New England Inc., a Hartford provider of telecommunications, cable, wiring and installation services, 22; ArchivesOne Inc., a Watertown provider of records storage, 39; Salamander Designs Ltd., a Hartford manufacturer of home theater furniture, 40; Horizon Staffing Services, an East Hartford provider of temporary and permanent staffing services, 41.
Also, Horizon Services Corp., an East Hartford provider of contracting services, 50; Kenneth Boroson Architects, New Haven, 60; GimaSport, a Hartford apparel maker, 64; Q-Tran Inc., a Bridgeport transformer manufacturer, 77; and Svigals and Partners, a New Haven architectural firm, 90.
